Southend Trip

This term in KS1 we have been learning about the Seaside. We were lucky enough to visit Southend and the Sea Life Adventure centre where we got to learn about different seal life creatures. In the rock pool area we learnt about how Patrick the star fish and Eddy the crab survive in their habitats. At lunch time we explored the beach and found different types of shell. Mrs Boylan had a surprise for us and we all got to eat a delicious ice cream.

Punch and Judy Topic

In KS1 our topic this term has been exploring the Seaside. In Design and Technology we have been learning about Puppets and to begin this exciting topic we had a special visitor come in to show us a Punch and Judy puppet show. Here are some pictures from the show:

Castles topic

The children in Key stage 1 have been finding about Castles. The topic began with each of the three year 1 and 2 classes visiting Hertford Castle. They had a great time exploring the gardens and grounds. They visited the dungeons, some of the children were even put in the stocks! They visited the very important chamber rooms and were able to sit in the Mayor’s chair.

At school the children learnt all about the features of castles and the ways in which they were defended as part of their learning History. They wrote stories and information leaflets about castles.

On Thursday 5th November the children took part in a Castles Day and came into school in fancy dress. They were transformed into knights, kings, queens, princesses, princes, servants and even a jester! During the morning parents came in to help the children design and make castles. In the afternoon they learnt a castle song, took part in a medieval dance and role played castle stories. A great time was had by all!

PE

Please make sure your child has both indoor & outdoor kit in school at all times and that their names are clearly labelled in all of their uniform & shoes. Please also provide hair band, spare pair of socks & ensure earrings have been removed on PE days.

Literacy

The main reading scheme used is the Oxford Reading Tree, while phonics teaching is based on Letters and Sounds
