Last year, following feedback from parents, the governors decided to provide more detailed profiles of their personal backgrounds and their role within the school. It is hoped that these profiles will give an understanding of who we are and the role that the governors play in managing the school.
This autumn it falls to me to provide that profile. I am in my fourth year of being a parent governor and have had children at Wheatcroft for the past 10 years so I am fortunate to know many of your faces on the playground. I have two boys; Finn, who is in year 9 at Simon Balle and Oscar who is in year 5/6. Those who know the boys know how different they are and I have always felt impressed by the way that the school not only educated but also provided the opportunity for them to grow as individuals.
When the opportunity to be a governor came up three years ago I decided to apply. As a teenager I trained as a beauty therapist and worked in various locations from high streets to cruise ships and moved into teaching in Further Education colleges nearly 30 years ago. I felt that my background and interest in customer service and education would be beneficial to the governing body at a time when they were wanting to engage more with parents.
As well as attending the governing body meetings I also have subject link governor responsibility. In the past I have been the link governor for Maths and I am currently the link governor for English. This means that I visit the school at least once a term to meet with the Subject lead. The visit is an opportunity to monitor the progress and developments that are being made across the school within that subject. The report of the visit is then uploaded to the website, where you will find reports from the other governors too so if you’ve got time between the festivities, take a look.
I am fortunate that as I work part-time I do have time in the week to also attend the different school activities and the amazing PTFA functions. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Decorations day, a Nativity, Christingle and a Christmas bazaar! I hope that I have been able to say hello to many of you at the various functions but if not please feel free to approach me for a chat. I’m usually on the main playground towards the end of the week.
Wishing you all a fun-filled and happy Christmas and New Year.
