January 2018 in Reception 1

RAF Visit

This week the RAF came to visit Wheatcroft. Reception One were so excited! They brought along special equipment, RAF vehicles and a life boat. After the RAF officers explained their roles Reception were able to explore the lifeboat, we managed to squeeze in our whole class!

Positional language

This half term we’ve had a focus on Traditional tales. Last week our book of the week was Little Red Riding Hood; we linked this to positional language in our forest school. We went out as a class and read the story then dressed up as the different characters and hid in the woods! We hid on top, behind, next to and under objects in the forest.

Phonics and Writing

This half term we’ve moved onto phase 3 in phonics. We’ve been focusing on diagraphs which has been a little tricky but we’ve worked so hard we are now independently writing sentences using phase 3 sounds. We’ve applied this knowledge to writing our own traditional tale in class.
