Tag Rugby Festival

After coming second in the Hertford and Ware Tag Rugby Festival, Wheatcroft made it through to the County Finals at Oaklands College, St Albans.

When we arrived we were treated to an opening ceremony which included: 3 former Olympic Fencers, a dance act and a live singing performance from local musician George Clark.

After some light entertainment, the tag rugby got underway. Wheatcroft sadly lost their first match but tried their very hardest and battled to the end, the final score being 5-4 to the opponents. The second game was not quite as close as the last, with Wheatcroft losing 8-5. The next game was a win for Wheatcroft, 5-4. This really lifted a few heads and the spirit of the team but knowing that only one team would qualify from the group of 5, we were now playing for pride.

Next we had a long lunch break, which was spoiled slightly by some heavy rain but it didn’t dampen our mood.

The final game ended as a 3-3 draw and despite finding the group stages tricky, we represented the school well. The whole day was a momentous occasion and a fantastic achievement for the team to get to the county finals to represent Hertford and Ware. It is an event all of us will never forget!
