Wheatcroft vs Christchurch

Wheatcroft 6-1 ChristChurch

Wheatcroft were nervous just before the game against Christchurch as last year we lost 6-0 and 4-0. Unfortunately, even though we started with a positive team talk, our confidence dropped as soon as we were 1-0 down!

After that we had a chance, Harry had the ball, crossed it and Christchurch handled the ball inside the box… PENALTY!. Matthew stepped up to take it and scored. We then managed to keep it 1-1 until half time where we had a quick team talk because light was starting to fade.

We started the second half very well with a six pass move, which we nearly scored from. We continued attacking until Tyrese crossed the ball, allowing Matthew to flick it with his head on to Jake who tapped the ball in from close range to give us the lead.

Christchurch took the kick off and Matthew closed them down straight away and shot from about 15 yards low and hard, now giving us a two goal lead.

The defence continued to work hard with Oscar making a great tackle and Fenton continuing to impress on his debut.

We continued to push for more goals and managed to do it. Harry scored and Matthew scored one more for his hat-rick. It was now 5-1 but it wasn’t the end of the excitement. Harry`s curving goal from the left hand side of the pitch made everyone go mental. The final whistle blew shortly after with the score finished 6-1.

We were all very happy about our first win and so was Mr.Goodman!

It was a great achievement for Wheatcroft, coupled with the girls winning 12-2 in netball.
