September 2017 in Year 3/4

In Year 3/4 this month we have been mummifying tomatoes!

We have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians this term and we got to walk in their shoes! To mummify our tomatoes we had to make a hole in it and then scoop out all of the wet insides, yucky! We then put our tomatoes in a plastic cup and covered in completely with salt. This would prevent the tomato from going moldy.

After we had left them to mummify for two weeks, we tipped them out to see what they looked a felt like. A lot of them we dryer and felt harder than a normal tomato. The salt had stopped a lot of them from going moldy. Mrs Watson put a tomato in a plastic wallet for us to see what if would have looked like if we hadn’t covered it!
