February 2017 in Year 5

This month term in Maths we have been focusing on types of 2D shapes and their properties. We have been looking at the differences between regular and irregular shapes and started to look at different types of angles. Some of us have been experimenting with this through outdoor learning. Here are some of Year 5 recognising angles in the playground:

We have finished off our Science unit on Healthy Living and have examined the ways in which Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking and Sunbathing can impact on our health. We have also discussed the ways in which we can prevent such damage. We are all looking forward to our next Science unit on Mould!!

We have also been doing our Play Leader training and have been devising our own team games aimed at Lower Key Stage 2 children. We have had great fun practising these with our class friends and then teaching them to our Year 2 children in the hall. In PHSE we have started a new programme of study through Jigsaw and have been learning about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children, such as the right to be protected, the right to have food and shelter and the right to have an identity. We also have a new class Jigsaw mascot called Jez who helps us to focus our class discussions more effectively.
