November 2017 in Year 5

This month in Year 5, we have been busy – as always! We celebrated St Martin’s Day (Martinsfest) on 20th November ready for the actual day of 11th November. We learned about Martin, a Roman soldier, who wanted to help the poor and less fortunate. Children in German-speaking countries celebrate this and make Laterne each year to light the way for St Martin in a procession. We enjoyed making our own at home, then performing a traditional song to Key Stage 1.

We have also been looking at instruction writing in English and have written recipes for our own marvellous potions, inspired by George’s Marvellous medicine – watch out siblings!
