January 2017 in Year 5/6

In Year 5/6 we have been working on our non-chronological report writing and using this medium to hone our descriptive language, grammar and punctuation. We have been finding out about mountain creatures and mountain ranges, linking our English to our geography topic.

Our science focus has been healthy eating, the heart and blood. We have identified what makes a healthy meal and have drawn rather complicated pictures of the heart. We took our own pulse rates and identified what happened to our pulse rate when we exercised. Linking our science to our English, we have just stepped into the shoes of a blood cell and started to write stories about a blood cell’s journey through the body.

Our maths focus has been decimals, fractions and percentages, and some of us have improved our skills in this area on an outdoor maths trail. In PE we have been working hard on a rainforest dance and developing our rugby skills.
