March 2017 in Year 5/6

In English this month we having been working on Michael Morpurgo’s Kensuke’s Kingdom. We have looked at techniques to create suspense, written character descriptions, newspaper reports and diary entries. Our grand finale was creating our very own ‘Morpurgo-style’ stories.

In Art we have been looking at people in action and have studied the work of Gino Severini.

In maths we have continued to develop our reasoning and problem-solving skills, and have focused on fractions, length, area and volume, and statistics. We have been interpreting data and drawing pie charts.

Our work in French has taken us outside the classroom to practise directions and, this half term, our science project has been microorganisms. Before the Easter break we set up our mould experiments, to predict the best conditions for growing it…

Tag rugby has been our focus in PE as we honed our skills ready to put them into practice.
