April 2017 in Year 5/6

This month, in maths, we have been looking at coordinates, translation and reflection. We have been outside to practise our mental maths skills and have been working through problems together.

In English we have started our work on biographies and autobiographies. We have looked at a range of both and written about significant childhood events of our own.

We have looked at the Bayeux Tapestry designs ready for our textiles activities based on Kensuke’s Kingdom. We will soon be experimenting with different art techniques such as Batik and sewing.

In PE our focus turns to summer. We are honing our athletics skills (starting with running) and cricket, with a cricket coach coming in to help us develop our techniques.

In French, we have been learning how to order food in a café. ‘Le Chocolat Chaud’ is our favourite choice!

Returning after Easter we discovered mould in our petrie dishes – our microorganisms experiment had been a success. In science we have now started to learn about forces, and have been experimenting with magnets.

PSHE has given us the opportunity to dream and think about our goals; we have created our own dream clouds.
