March 2018 in Year 5/6

In English this month, we have really enjoyed learning about writing non-chronological reports. We gathered information about a topic of our choice (which ranged from Beyonce to Tesla sports cars)  and wrote our own reports. For World Book Day, we also wrote our own superhero stories to share with Year ¾ after the younger children shared their ideas with us.

To end our light topic in Science, we put on our own puppet show to demonstrate the dispute between Isaac Newton and Robert Hooke, over Newton’s theory of light and shadow. We then began our new topic on Electricity and the children were amazing at identifying different components of a circuit.

In Maths, we have been learning about multiplying fractions and percentages. The children made links between both and began to see how 50% for example is one half. We applied this learning to reasoning questions.

This month the Year 6 children went to Crucial Crew at Morgans School. Here the children learnt about staying safe in a variety of situation and knowing who they can turn to if they have any problems at school or at home. The Year 5 children took part in an Easter Journey at All Saints church.  The Building Bridges Company provided the children with stations to learn about Jesus’ passage during the Holy Week and how he was betrayed by his disciple Judas.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter break.
