January 2022 in Reception 1

We have had a lovely start to 2022 in Reception 1.

In RE we have been learning about how different countries welcome in the New Year. We have learnt to sing Auld Lang Syne and cross our arms whilst we sing as well as learning about Chinese New Year and Holi.

Our English topic has been Traditional Tales and we have really enjoyed listening to and acting out the stories of The Gingerbread Man, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood. We decorated gingerbread men, planted a bean seed and we did a science investigation to see what liquids a gingerbread man won’t dissolve in.

In Maths we have been partitioning into parts, thinking about using the correct vocabulary for length whilst ordering beanstalks and learning about 2D shapes.

We have continued to enjoy our weekly Forest School lessons, acting out the stories we have listened to, making story maps and we even went on a walk to upper forest school which was really exciting.

We have also enjoyed playing the glockenspiels in music trying really hard to keep in time with the music. Our favourite track to listen to this month was Miami Sound Machine’s conga.
