March 2022 in Year 2

We have really enjoyed all of the different learning opportunities that we have had this month. We started out the month with a very exciting and special day.
On Thursday 3rd March, we celebrated World Book Day! In class, we worked together to create a story called ‘The Tale of Son the Sloth’. We read ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’, and based our story on the themes from this. We were able to add our own main character and the troubles that he got in. We then each drew up a page of the story and recorded ourselves read our sections. Mrs Leishman used Movie Maker to put our pages and voices together to create the story to share with the rest of the school. Our obsession with sloths continued as we followed a ‘Draw with Rob’ tutorial to draw a sloth. We were all so impressed with ourselves and proud of the work that we produced!
In art, we followed the work of Andy Goldsworthy and created our own nature sculptures. We went into the forest school and used natural resources to create our own sculptures based on nature, although we did also add many happy faces! Inspired by our work on plants in Science, we carefully observed some leaves and used these to design our own clay sculpture. We each chose a leaf and seed from a tree and used our hands and tools to make them out of clay. Unfortunately, many of our sculptures were very fragile and broke in the drying process. We still really enjoyed getting to work with the clay and making many choices with our learning!
