Admissions
Starting school is a very important milestone in every child's life. As a parent / carer, you have a vital role to play in helping your child take the first steps on their learning journey. At Wheatcroft we are keen to work with you to make sure that starting school is a positive experience for your child.
Nursery Class Admissions
Wheatcroft carries out its own admission process for Nursery class places. Our process for applications for September 2025 will open on Monday 20th January 2025. If your child was born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022 they will be eligible to start nursery in September 2025.
Our Nursery currently provides both 15 and 30 hour provision:
15 hour session
9:00-12:00
30 hour session
9:00-3:00
Reception Class Admissions
The school works within Hertfordshire County Council’s school admissions policy for Reception class places.
From September 2011 all primary schools must offer children a full-time place at the start of the September term. However, legally, children do not have to be in full-time education until the term after their 5th birthday. Delaying your child’s entry into school is called ‘deferred entry’. You can request this, but your child must start before the end of the school year during which they turn 5.
For all admissions and transport information relating to Reception class including booklets, guidance, current admission arrangements and previous statistical information on the school’s admissions please follow the link below to the Hertfordshire County Council website:

In-Year Admissions
If you have moved, you can apply to change school during the school year. This is called an 'in-year admission'. You can also apply if you would like your child to attend a different school to the one they are already at.
The school works within Hertfordshire County Council's school admissions policy for in-year admissions into Reception class to Year 6. For further information on this process please use the link below to the Hertfordshire County Council website:
