September 2022 in Year 1

In Maths we have been exploring positional language. We looked at how to find objects based on the row or column they were in. We also explored ordinal numbers. We have also been looking at how to order numbers from smallest to largest and used this knowledge to help us to find one more and one less.

In English we read the book ‘Plenty of Love’ by Emma Chichester Clark and used this to help us learn how to write labels and captions. We have been learning how to use our imagination in our writing and develop our own ideas through reading the book ‘Stanley’s Stick’ by John Hegley. We went on a search in the playground for our own sticks and then wrote sentences about what they were. Some of us challenged ourselves by using adjectives in our writing.

In History we have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We looked at how the equipment firemen use has changed and sorted pictures into the past and now.

In RE we have been learning about the creation story. We made our own creation and thought about how we felt about making it and then what it would be like if someone didn’t look after it. We then thought about how we should look after the planet we live on.

For the Harvest Festival we created our own fruit and vegetables characters.
