September 2017 in Year 5/6

What a wonderful September it has been in Year 5/6. I can’t believe the first month has gone so quickly! The children have settled in well to their new class and been very supportive to all new teachers, including myself.

We enjoyed our residential trip to the Isle of Wight/Norfolk and came back with so many stories to share. Everyone had a great time away and created memories that will last a lifetime. I’m sure you’ve heard about the cave exploring or the magical Dodo-Land!

In CLJ we have been exploring Mexico. We began by looking into where Mexico is in the world and which physical features shape the land the people of Mexico live on. We have been looking into its history and more recently how the country has suffered from terrible earthquakes.

In our Science lessons we have investigated evolution and inheritance and been able to stand understanding how some of our physical features are genetic and others acquired through learning and adaptation. It led to quite a funny debate within the classroom about where the children got their musical or sports skills from!
