October 2020 in Year 3/4

This month has been full of exciting new learning. We have really enjoyed focussing on picture books for our writing in English. We have been looking at Dr Xargle’s Book of Earth Hounds. This is an explanation text to describe dogs from an alien’s point of view. We rewrote this as humans writing an information file about aliens. We really liked using some alien words and getting into the mind-set of the aliens.

In Maths we have been focussing on addition and subtraction. We have been using think-10 to solve addition questions where we have needed to regroup the number. We have also used the base-10 to support our calculations. We have been using the Maths Bot website to use the base-10 where we cannot touch lots of equipment. We really enjoyed getting used to the software.

In Music, we finished our Reggae topic by performing a section of ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley. We used the Glockenspiels to play part of the pulse and get an idea for the beat of the music. We played two parts simultaneously to play in harmony. We enjoyed learning the notes and performing them in time with the song.
