We have had a really busy first month of 2020 in Year 4. We have been thinking about our dreams and goals in PSHE and planning how we might achieve them.
In English we have been writing explanation texts based on Wallace and Gromit’s Cracking Contraptions. We all designed a machine and made blueprints and then wrote our explanations.
We started the term in Maths looking at shapes and lines. We investigated parallel and perpendicular lines, different angles and then we looked at lines of symmetry. We enjoyed using geoboards and geostrips to make shapes matching different criteria.
We have been really active this month as we have been swimming, learning about bridges in Gymnastics with Mr. Nicholls and taking part in team building activities in the hall. We went ‘caving’ using mats and benches which we all really enjoyed.
As part of our History we have been learning about the Anglo-Saxons and how they have influenced our language and place names. We looked at map of England and found the seven counties that England was divided into in Anglo-Saxon times. We have been thinking like Historians and looking at artefacts and what they can tell us about the Anglo-Saxons.
Science has been really exciting this term as we are learning about Electricity. We started off by learning about how electricity is produced and electrical safety and we are now beginning to make our own circuits.
