November 2020 in Year 5

In year 5 we have enjoyed finding out about famous people. We got to choose who we wanted to research and write a biography for. Frequently, during the lesson, we paused to edit and reflect on our writing. By highlighting features of our writing, we were able to up level it, therefore improving it further.

In maths, we have been learning different methods for addition and subtraction. These include re-grouping, partitioning and column method. We have also been working on our arithmetic and reasoning skills.

In topic, we have been learning about volcanoes and their effects on the world. Believe it or not, they are actually a good thing. Without them the world would explode and the land wouldn’t be as fertile as it is.

In science, we have been learning about light. We have made periscopes and investigated how light travels and how we see colour. Many of us thought the moon was a source of light, however we now know that it isn’t and that it reflects the light because it is white.

Here are photos of us with our periscopes that we made. We were investigating how they worked.
