Year 5 made a fantastic start to the school year in September! They settled into the new routines of school life smoothly and lots of learning was evident. In Maths we have been focusing on place value and have been practicing reading and writing numbers up to 1 million.
In English we began our learning with reading the whole school book Journey. Interestingly, the book has no words but does contain intricately drawn pictures. We used drama to re-create some of the scenes from the book. We then used the book as inspiration to write our own ‘Journey’ themed short stories.
In Art we have enjoyed thinking about people in motion. We explored human proportion before experimenting with drawing figures in different poses. The results were impressive! In Science we have started our Space topic and we have learnt so many facts about our Solar System. We have explored why we have night and day and why we have four distinct seasons.
